BOYS ALLOWED!!!

It’s mostly girls who read my books… or is it? Who says that boys don’t want to read real-life, growing up stories about friendship, families and falling in love? Boys have friends, families and feelings too, after all!

Boys DO read my books, but they don’t post on the website as often as girls. (OK, OK, I know… the website IS very pink!!!!) Do YOU know a boy who enjoys my books? A friend, a brother, a classmate, a boyfriend? If so, get him to post a comment through the link below explaining why he likes the books… I’ll post the best online and print the VERY best in a brand new CC minibook, Cupcakes & Kisses, to be given away free with UK mag Mizz in the summer!

Who knows, there could be some boy readers out there who are just as cool as Finn, Kian, Sam, Carter, Paul and Mouse…

Get those comments coming… let’s hear it for the boys!!!

tricia says...

i totally agree! I’m still good mates with my ex-boyfriend (we got together chatting about books, so the friendship still survived!)and i lent him lucky star recently, he practically begged for some more! he didn’t much like the fact that all the other books have girls as main characters, but he said they were good, and has suddenly and mysteriously started dressing like a certain trilby hat-wearing character…

Kate says...

Cool! I’ll ask some of my boy friends if they do. I bet I’ll get one that secretly reads his sisters copy! Haha!

alice says...

hahahahaha it would be funny if someone pretended to be carter or mouse haha the thought of it haha i would love that! Please someone do that it would be sooooo funny! Love you Cathy xoxo alice x

Stacey says...

I know a boy who reads your books…

Hannah says...

That’s really fab. Yeah boys allowed! Go cathy! you are so fab! i love the word fab! LOL

Jess Spiby says...

I think that boys do enjoy cathy cassidy`s books, but are too ashamed to admit it, as they seem very girly!! I personally, don`t know any boys who actually read a book the whole way through,,but then again, boys will be boys…...:P xxxx

Pia Mandeng says...

But a boy wouldn’t want to be spotted with a book that colorful!

olivia says...

I totaly agree! Some of the boys i know try and act rough and tough but when u get 2 know them they are like big softies!!! Everyone has feeling and emotions ladies, men, boys, girls and even animals!!!

livvy xxxxxx

Luke says...

I love Cathy Cassidy’s books espically driftwood!! Because i think that paul is very sophistcted and unusal.

Jamie says...

My sister first introduced me to your books and at first, seeing Dizzy’s bright pink cover, I wasn’t so sure, but after reading the first page I was hooked. People who say boys don’t read books don’t know a thing!

Jane Crowley says...

My comment is that not all girls read the books. There is a boy in my class who read Dizzy and Sundae girl and couldn’t put them down! The teacher had to beg him!!!!!!!!!!!

Malka says...

ok so boys should be allowed but the thing is boys try to be tough age 11 and up so to tell u the turth I don’t think boys r there yet besdies the hate it when woman or girls tell them somthing. girls r always ready to explain what has happened to them but even the boys that do explian r boys for chiken soup for the soul

Emily says...

I know 2 boys who enjoy Cathy’s books. But they both pretend to be really tough so I wouldn’t be able to get them on this website!

Sarahxxx01 says...

I agree that boys should read ur books. They’re amazing for every boy and girl to read.

Erica says...

Wel . . I think a lot of boys probably DO read your books and all them kinda books that MOSTLY girls would like but they just hide it. . xoxox

Ruth says...

That is so true! It’s sexist to say boys can’t read Cathy’s books because there to girly. My boyfriend saw me reading Gingersnaps a while back and asked to borrow it- now I can hardly get them back again!

Finn says...

I’m a boy and i’m fourteen. I’m also called Finn! So he’s of course my favourite. Your books rule, all the girls seem beautiful and interesting too. You are a really good writer. More please! Finn../.

Molly says...

I agree. Boys do have feelings also. Even though I live in the U.S., but boys think they are so tough, but my best friend, Brian, (we’ve known each other since nursery school) tells me his feelings and its surprising because I always thought that boys were boys who rarely cried, but I know that is not true!!! I LOVE YOUR BOOKS , CC!!!!!!!

Callum says...

Hey, My sister has got all the books and she loved them. We were on a holiday and i had finished all my books, so i picked up lucky star and started reading it. It was a great book and i have now read all the cathy cassidy books and i loved all of them. I do think though, that you should make the books with alternative covers, ones that aren’t as girly because i feel a self-concious reading the books at school or in public because it’s obvious that it’s a chick’s book.

Amelia says...

I know a guy that reads your books even though hes 13 he likes al of them but his fave is Lucky Star because its about a boy (hes at my house now) you should make some more that follow on to storys about other charicters like the <B>BOYS</B> the only thing is the bright covers i think that puts most boys of your books we love you xxx :)

Connor says...

Hiya, How’s you been? I can’t wait to meet you at Bluewater. I got your newsletter about the boys and well I’d just like to say. You’re books rock! I think they’re great and you should never stop writing!

Rin says...

Also, Cathy, if you did books for older boys (y’know, about 15 or 16 years old) ABOUT older boys, I think guys like my brother (who is nearly 17) would enjoy them more. No offense! I love all your books, but I’m just saying what I think would interest boys more. I’m looking forward to your next book, Angel Cake. Lots of love, Rin xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

paige says...

I agree definately because my best friend Ben reads cathy cassidy books and he’s a boy! Boys can read them as well as girls or it’s sexist! x

Rin says...

Hey Callum, if you come back on here i’ve got something to tell you: i know scarlett and sundae girl and indigo blue etc all have girly covers kind of but if anyone bothers you about reading one of them just say “Hey, do me a favour and mind your own business” or ignore them. (But that’s only for if they give you a hard time!!!) Rin xxxxxxxxxx P.S. this is to Cathy: Right now i’m reading gingersnaps (and Sundae Girl) and they’re both amazingly BRILL !!!! Love them :)

Zoe says...

True Fact I Totally Agree ! But Its Very Sad That Boys Dont Share There Feelings About Books Like These ! My Boy Friend At Skool Gave Me The Book Scarlett For My Birthday I was reallly happy and pleased !! I bet he secretly read it before !!LOL

Anna says...

awesome! you could always take the dust cover off another book, but it’s better to face people.

Maggie says...

I think its gr8 2 c boys reading books that I like reading! Im not really 1 of the girls that is really girly, who likes shopping, jewlery, and pink. So I have 2 addmit, Im more like a boy rather than a girl. So I know what the boys would rather read about. I like Luck Star because it is from the eyes of a guy, so that appealed to me. And I also loved the romeance between Mouse and Cat! And BTW ; I think Im in love with MOUSE ! LOL! Even though he is a fictional character! Thanx Cathy for getting me into reading! Love Magz xxx

Hannah says...

I might ask if the boys in my class like you books! I’ll be really surprised if they do! Oh by the way im Hannah Blair the person you wrote the letter to on the train to LONDON !!!!!!!!! = -)

Tavonne says...

anyone can read books whatever age or gender and thats a fact.warningDO NOT TRY AND PROVE ME WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cassi says...

Heya Cathy! I bet boys (do) and would love your books! =] This is to Rin, about Callum. Maybe you should suggest for the boys that are picking on you about CC’s books, to read one and see if they like the books. . . This is to everyone: I LOVE MOUSE and if you have a school Magazine you should put a survey in it about whether people read CC books and whether they are boy or girl to find out how many boys like the books aswell as girls. . . Can’t wait for Angel Cake! Cassi Xx

Amaani says...

The first book of Cathy Cassidy i read was dizzy and it was great. I am sure boys will like your books too because my brother sometimes reads jaqueline wilson books and Cathy is quite similar to her so i think boys do read books about real life.

Ruth t says...

Me and my friends are trying to get some of the boys we know to read them and we told them how Lucky Star is about a boy, but like most other people I think it’s the cover that puts them off. You’re books are really great, when I finished all of them I was really into reading, I read Indigo Blue in one day!!! Love Ruth

Daisey says...

hey hey my friend luke saw me reading a cathy cassidy book he loved it pluse he now wants to borrow the book!

Rosie xx says...

(To Callum) Never judge a book by it’s cover!

Anna says...

i plan to try and get boys to read your books when i go back to school after the holidays. i rekon we could get joe to try one and same about julius, what do u think paigey F

Pete T says...

We read a CC book in Year 6 in class, and none of the boys realy had a problem with it but I don’t know how many are still reading them now. But I got my sister into them an now I read her copies! Lucky Star is my favorite but I like Scarlet as well the very first one I read was Indigo blue. It wa svery dramatic I think that is what hooks you in.

Nattie says...

My boyfriend is a bookaholic! He reads all the books I have and I cant stop him so when I got Lucky Star he stole it off of me be fore I had finished it! He is very evil that way. He wants me to get more (and I have) but I just hide them from him! rofl!

me says...

boys don’t really have a problem with books like yours cathy. why? my younger brother even plays with my barbies! love you cathy me

Jake says...

I like the books, but I dont really tell people that as some of te boys at school would make a big deal of it. Some of the girls too. I dont want anyone tell me what to read, but some people think reading is lame full stop, I figure they are sad losers and dont knwo what they are missing. Why should I read about war and football all the time when I am inetrested in girls and the books talk about that and boys books dont. I get my girlfriend to loan me the books these days

Riannon says...

All the guys who read her bks r amazin. You r the type of guys all the girls wod lik 2 meet. Keep on readin dem. xoxo

Zoe P says...

Boy’s get made fun of when they read “girls” books. I think it’s totally unfair because they can read whatever they want! It’s the same with TV programmes. My boy mate loves to read some of Jacqueline Wilson’s books, and I’m totally cool with that.

Hannah says...

I never really see any of my boy m8s reading and I bet some of them read the same books I do. Boys should be ‘allowed’ to read girly books, I mean who wouldn’t want to read these fab books?! They’re all about friedship and different problems, although sometimes we think boys are from another planet who’s to say they don’t have the same problems we do?

Natalie says...

One of my best friends how happens to be a boy called Aaron LOVES your books. H e can still relate to most charectors even though most are girls. Why should ge have to read about cars and war and things like that. Boys how like cathy cassidy books can’t be sterotyped because of it sure most boys don’t leave you comments but i know one boy that reads them and has a black tribly hat !

Eilidh says...

i don’t think that it is fair to say that, just because something has a bright or girly cover, that boys won’t enjoy or even pick up the book. Cathy Cassidy’s books can be read by ANYONE !

jade says...

I totally think that boys should read cathy’s books. I mean yh they are a bit girly (well alot!)but they are great fun to read and if a boy read one of her books and didn’t like it then they must be crazy!

Tasnim says...

Heyya Cathy! I luv your books and i know a boy who likes your books too, but he doesn’t like to read them in public because he thinks your books are too bright coloured! can’t wait for your new book, Angel cake…! luv, Tasnim xx

Anna says...

i don’t think it makes sense that i could read cherub or specky magee(an AFL book) and no one would care they’d just asked me where i was up to. if lots of the boys at my school saw a guy reading a cathy cassidy book i rekon they wouldn’t let him forget it, he’d be teased for ages. i think what happens would also depend on who read the books if it was a ‘cool guy’ they only get teased a bit if it was a ‘a normal or a nerd’ they get teased a resonable amount(not the the teasing is reasonable). if one of the wierd guys read one they’d have hell to pay. i really like both these guys everyone does just with one no matter how hard he tries he get bad grades and the other is really funny and sweet, but for some reason no one really respects him and some boys(ones who went to primary school with him)kinda bully him.

Naomi says...

ey Cathy, my name’s Naomi but everyone calls my Nemo – it’s sort of a nick name i guess, i got it when the movie first came out haha. yeah, well anyway, I’ve read most of your books, starting from way back in grade four. Now I am in highschool but I still love your books! Right now I’m in the middle of Ginger Snaps. My cousin Carter (haha, funny! but he doesn’t have floppy blonde hair, but he IS pretty clumsy) and I were talking about the books we like. Carter is one year older than me and we are more like bestfriends than cousins. And I told him about your books and I showed him a few. At first he just thought I’d gone mad, I mean, why would I give him a girls’ book? Haha. but I let him borrow my copy of Lucky Star and he came back the next day – he had finished the whole book in just one day! I was so shocked, but proud of him. He told me that he really loved the book and the fact that it was in the Boy’s point of view instead of the girls. But he also said that he was really embarrassed when his mates came round and saw the book. He reckons the cover is just a tad girly – but you should never judge a book by uts cover; even I agree that the covers are just a bit childish for my taste, even if I am a girl. But what is in between the covers is what amtters most, with true meaning, and the stories really made me a bit emotional (especially Scarlett – I wanted Kian to be with her forever!). Later on Carter read the other books, but he didn’t like them as much as Lucky Star, becuase they were all in the girl’s point of view, but he says they were all still very good! We both love your books Cathy, with love and best wishes, from NEMO .

PS: Kian will you marry me?! Hahaha :P

Jodie says...

i think the books are sutibale for boys too! they should get a chance to read and then take part in our disscusions about the books! xx

Hannah says...

You never see most boys read books and I think boys should be ‘allowed’ to read girly books without getting teased. I mean who wouldn’t want to read these fab books?!

Kieran says...

ok know i am in a minority here but who cares, i have read lucky star i really like it, its a lot more real to life than stuff like underage spys and sas soldiers, they are good for escapism but i do get bored of them. i prefer fantasy style i suppose but lucky star was my faverite for ages, i would like to see more books from a bys pont of view or even a whole new series of books aimed more at boys with less flowey covers.

Becky says...

I know that your books are about love and passion… but boys can enjoy it to just like girls enjoy playing basketball and football. So really we can’t judge because of the sex someone is! From Bex

katie says...

if u want ill get my dad 2 read 1 ….......only joking but id like 2 c bois from my skul reading them.

Charlotte says...

I think boys should also be allowed to read them too!I know a boy who might like to read some…LOL!!!

erica kelly says...

Hey Cathy, I love your books so much and i am only on Indigo Blue!

I think boys should read your books they would probaly say Oh that books for girls when there around there mates but when there on there own they will probaly ask you for a lend of all of them!

Love You And Your Books Cathy! XxX Erica Kelly.

Ruth says...

i agree boys should read ur books once i was in skul reading luck star and the boy i was sitting beside me started reading it but one of his mates caught him and asked him what he was reading and and he said he was doing nothing but i know he was enjoying it he told me

jennyjaffacake says...

Hi Cathy I think boys and girls should be able to read all types of books Xx

Hayley says...

i think boys should read these books because they are sometimes put in the same situations as mabye Finn. If boys think they cant read one of Cathys books just because the main characters are girls then those boys must be very jealous and if their not they should be. These books to me could be read by any gender. If a boy is reading this and youve read a Cathy Cassidy book i give my love to read to you.

Paige says...

anna thats an awsome idea!! CATHY CASSIDY I LOVE YOUR BOOKS

nikki higgins says...

i toattly read your books there is nothing wrong with peoplew say its just a girls type of books but nothing stops them from reading it…

-*-KT-*- says...

heehee! my neighbour (a boy, aged 9 i think!) said he really liked scarlett the best cos he likes the colour red! just showed him this website! he thinks its ok. Cathy ROCKS ! from -KT-

Cece =D says...

I luuuuuuuvvvvvvvvv Cathy Cassidy’s bookss….they r soo gr8….i thnk it wld b fab if boys wld start readin them! specially if they wld bcum like sam taylor or kian or mouse or any of them…. THAT WLD B GR8 ! bt the problem with boys at my scool(dont kno bout others) is that they dont wna b different…they’re all jst the same: football crazed boyys! bt i thnk if they read sum of the books it wld really help change them…. So 2 any boys who read these bookss… U ROCK !!!! b different! lol luv u cathy….xoxoxoxo

Megan says...

You never know somone might have read all your books!!! xx

Evie says...

I think that boys should have the right to read your books! After all, how would you like it if boys said that you were not allowed to read boyish books.

Remember that not all boys like football! My best friends that are boys never even mention football, they are into the same things as me!

simra says...

your books are a mixture of boys and girls

James says...

Hi, im a boy and i love your books, i read dizzy first (which i am sad to say is not your best book! sorry.) and then i read scarlett and indigo blue. i had the whole series for christmas (apart from gingersnaps) and i bought gingersnaps 2 weeks agoin a book shop.

rhianna says...

i love your books and am half way through scarlet and i have lots of friends that are boys which i could recommend your books to

Matilda says...

Don’t actually know any boys who do read your books but bet you they do! Still trying to find out where one of MY cathy books have gone. haven’t asked my brother yet though….

cant say, or jodie will kill me. says...

oh no. is that the Jodie in my class?!!! i think it is!!!! she reads them.

Keira says...

i agree… i luv cathy cassidy books and i thik lots of boys do 2 :)

Rosie xx says...

I agree with Cece! All the boys at my school are obsessed with football, and thats all they seem to care about! They all spike their hair up and try to copy one boy who they all think is like the ‘coolest’. He’s left now, so maybe things will change! There are a few really nice, friendly boys who I think COULD read them with a little bit of work! :^)

Cece says...

yup same with me rosie! they all try 2 b like 1 person…. bt if u get them on their own they r like completly different ppl! lets work on them though…who knows anythin cld happen!! lol

Kenya says...

My Cousin Josh came over to my house and he saw Scarlett Sitting on my shelf. He reached up and grabbed it and read the blurb and seemed so interested i let him borrow it. About 2 weeks later he came again and borrowed Indigo Blue. He didnt come over for another couple of months, and when he finally did, i wondered why he didnt borrow another one, but i didnt say so. the next week i found out why… He had EVERY SINGLE Cathy Cassidy book in his bookshelf!

Hannah says...

Boys should love Cathy C books. Because even the main characters are girls, boys will understand what girls’ve gone through. It means a lot to me that boys read your books, Cathy, since I want the world to be an equal or fair place.

payton says...

hi cathy

i really really really really (x100000 more really’s)i love them so much im not sure which one is my favourite when i started reading scarlett the first book i read by you i was amazed at why i have never loved a book as much as i loved scarlett i have rad love peace and chocolate , scarlett ,indigo blue and your new book the awsome gingersnaps im in the middle of reading dizzy and im not sure what will happen in the end anyway unforunatly all the boys in my class act all tough and read horrible history/science/geography but im not quiet sure what they do at home and it was so unfair when a suprise auther came to are school and it was not you it was well unfair (it was ali sparks so not that bad) anyway i love your books and cant wait to read angel cake ( woooooooooooooooooooooow)

Amy says...

In my class balin reads the cassy cassidy books. He was the one who got me into them!!

cait says...

i would love to know a guy who is into cathy cassidy books !how cool would that be totalk to your boyfriend about cathy cassiy books ! saddly i dont :( :(

Lauren says...

Has any boys entered MBFR this year? When do the finalists find out whether they get to go to London?

Sonia says...

Totally right,I had so much fun last year at the MybestFriends Rock awards. I do hope the finalists this year have a brill time!. x

Katy says...

i think i’d be good that boys read your books like it’s normally and cool in boyland. i think boys should read more off your books because they’ll learn more about what really happens in this world. i really like your books becausei feel like i am the person in the book. i like lucky star best because it’s from a boy’s point of view. i also like gingersnaps because i like in the end that ginger falls for sam but shannon is stopping them. i like that in the end ginger ignores shannon and goes for what she beleives in. xxx

Emma Hayes says...

I don’t know…the boys in my class had a chance to get a free Cathy Cassidy book sometime last year and they mostly chose Why eating bogies is good for you. Personally, I think the book sounds gross. If they had have wanted to read that story, they wouldn’t have chose it. They’d have got bullied like mad, just like Paul. Boys are just as secretive, you know…they can be quite emotional. It’s sad they have to hide it…real sad. Emzy xx

Heva says...

Boys have different tastes. Unfortunatly that’s normally guns and Cheryl Cole. But yes, i would LOVE to meet a boy who reads CC books. Why should they only be for girls? Boy’s should be able to read these cool books anytime. END OF !

p.s. soory i’m a rely doggie speller!

Rosie says...

I think boys should be able to do what they want its a free country x

Billie says...

Totally! I read this artical and gave my best friend Jerrin all your books and he can’t stop talking about them! It’s cool, but annoying as well! Thank you for being a brilliant writter Cathy x

Louisa says...

I haven’t seen any boy’s read your books but i’ll surely reccomend it to them and i thought the paragragh you wrote on your home page was absolutly brill!

Minxie says...

Most boys are stupid so they wouldn’t read any book. But some boys who who have good tastes in life would read Cathy Cassidy’s books. They are easy to read, fun, emotional, real life…

Isla says...

I reckon thats totally true!!! i mean ur books aren’t all about girls and I’m sure theres some guys out there that would love them!!

Bella says...

I love Cathy’s books! I agree some boys might read her books but would hide it. Most boys i know say they would prefer to read about sport or so they say. Any way go the boys who admit they like reading cathy’s books!!! They rock!

Georgia says...

I agree that boys can read your books too. I mean, why can’t they. Boys can dream aswell, altough I haven’t seen many boys reading your books, I’m sure there are and I think more boys should.

Maddie says...

To Cathy, I think it would be brilliant if you wrote a book that MOST boys would enjoy, and then see if the girls (and now that i’ve read these comments i know that boys read them aswell!) that read these books would like it. I don’t see why boys can’t read them aswell! also, just to tell you that i think your books ROCK cathy, so keep writing more! M oxoxox

Maddie says...

To Cathy, Can’t wait for the book free with mizz! I’m really excited to hear what they think about your books! I agree with some of the boys who have posted comments here, it would be a good idea ih you published your books with different front covers.

M x

PS i love your books cathy!

Molly says...

I say that boys can read Cathy Cassidy’s books! The boy I liked saw me reading one, found one in the school libary and started reading it! AND he winks at me!! THANK -YOU CATHY CASSIDY !!!!

alice x says...

i think some boys are looking at this and thinking im not writing on it, im too tough and too cool to read girls books. But boys who do think that are so wrong, come on boys, dont be a baby, say you read them, it will make us and cathy proud !! x

KaTiE says...

I totally agree! There are lots of stupid boys that I know, but I also know lots of really cool ones. So I think boy would love reading cathy cassidy books.

Girls still rule though. :-P

Alice says...

Yay! Well done Cathy! You’re soooooo nice, I want to be just like you when I’m older! x

Chloe..x says...

I have a mate with a twin brother and he always like, steals her books to read but never admits it :S,haha, lol (: xx

Millie says...

I think boys can read the books but they’re only interested in books were the main charecter is a boy. Like they could read Lucky Star! (awsome book btw)

But they might only like the fact that its a 14 year old boy that is being thretand by a Drug addict. Trust me, every male in my school would want to read Lucky Star if you told them that.

I dont think they would realy like it when Mouse is with Cat and they hav Lovey-dovey moments cuz not realy many boys I know are romantic or would want to read that sort of thing.

Trust me though! I love love stories and that sort of thing. My Mum calls me a Hopless Romantic!! I think boys should read your books, cuz its real life and not James Bond rubbish!!

But Im just a girl so I cant tell you what boys think but realy I think anybody can read what thye want!!!!

sumaya says...

I love your books i am going to get my 2 cousins (Kai & Jay) into your books and my little brother (Ali) to when he is older as he is only 1 years old.Lol.

Maya xxx

ashley says...

in 2004 i fell in love with your books! since then i have read ALL of them more than 3 times! I feal really sorry for boys because if they read something girly or play a girly game like netball, they will pay BIG TIME ! I all so think that you shouldn`t juge a book by its cover!Just for all thoses boys out there I just thorght you should know that your not the only one out there because, in the past i have been tised because of reading boys books!( i love books sooo much that i read any!) i`m also kind of a tomboy because im deffenetly NOT a girly girl however fashion is still inportent to me! so for all those boys out there i say give it a go! and hay who cares what they say! if they don`t read cathys fantastic books then they have no life and there missing out NOT you! so go for it! LIY cathy! LOVE ashley!(mash!)

Lauren says...

have you started writing anymore books? my friend thats a boy loved lucky star and wished there was more books with boys as the main characters but also love the ones with girls as the main characters too!

Laurina says...

I cant believe boys read your books, its so cool! If I ever thought about asking the boys in my class about reading they’d laugh. Sometimes i think they all share one brain or somthing! Please keep writing, your books are amazing!

Esmae says...

i agree with kate one of the boys in my year has a older sister who loves cathy cassidy and i heard that he steals them off her and reads them every night! they all obviously want to know how a girl thinks!!!!

Ellie says...

I’ve been reading the comments on Boys Alowwed and lots of people have said that boys dont want to read them because they look too girly. Why don’t you write a book just for boys?: it might get them to read your other books.

Matilda says...

i think boys should totally read your books Cathy they rock. i’ve lent all mine to my friend, but when iget them back i’m defentily giving them to some boys. Love Ya Matilda xxx

Sheridan says...

i Love your books and i think it is great that boys do as well! I hope they all love them as much as i do! :)

Hayley says...

Hey cathy! I think it’s great that boys enjoy your writting, it’s actually kind of refreshing. Most boys i know won’t think of picking up a book, let alone one with a pink, glistening cover. I’m sure most girls would agree that finding a guy who you can talk about the great characters of ‘Lucky Star’ with as well as the incredible way the books seem to hook you in after the first page would be a great discussion i’d like to have with any guy. Don;t be shy to read the books guys! I think it’s great! Best wishes! xo

Erin x says...

i think thats its cool that some boys like to read girls books theres nothing wrong with it and its just the same as girls reading boys books and i find it cruel how boys who read girls books get picked on but girls who read boys books dont? and the people who do pick on them are bullys and sad lowlifes who are atention seekers and have nothing better to do!

Immyx says...

Hey Cathy, I think your books are fantastic. If boys read them, I think thats great, It’s about real-life and they could learn a lot about girls points of views in difficult situtations. If they ever wanted to know about girls and how they feel about boys then they should totally buy one of your books. I have to say, that the audience reading your books are more likely to be girls, because it’s a girly kind of book. But if you look on the other side, your books are great for both, boys and girls. Keep writing Cathy! Imogen. P.S I can’t wait until your new book Angel Cake comes out! I’m getting it for my birthday :)

Kieran says...

Hey Cathy and all the girls out there! I like CC…especially Scarlett. I loved Scarlett’s rebellious nature and her secret friend Kian. When my sister told me about this forum ‘thing’ I quickly logged on! I’m not really one for the others, I mean Lucky Star was quite good…but Scarlett is a firm favourite, and only because of my sister forcing me to read it! You rule Miki!

Finn says...

my boy friend reads cathy cassidy books and cries bcoz there so gud.Who says boys cant read her buks.they were made for her fans to read and most boys r fans of cathy

liam says...

i read cathies fabulus books and enjoy them.im a boy,and i luv reading.boys can read the girliest books in the world if we wanted to.its not as if its eleagle, for crying out loud

Holly says...

I think that boys should be able to read your books so what if they’ve got pink covers, just don’t read it at school! I mean I think (as me) it’s unfair on boys girls can wear trousers boys can’t wear skirts, girls can read a boy book or be called a tomboy with out being offended. Boys can’t go girly with out beign teased. I think just because Cathy’s books look girly it doesn’t mean they are girly. You pcik up a book in the library which is black and called SpiderMan you think BORING you read the first page and you’re hoolked up, I can do that. Boys if you’re listening READ CATHY CASSIDY BOOKS THEY RULE (BUT DON ’T READ THEM AT SCHOOL BECAUSE NO OFFENCSE CATHY BUT THE COVERS ARE KINDA GIRLY ) :D Holly xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Anna says...

i agree with holly except the fact that their is no shame in reading a book with a pink flowery cover,i read books with soliders on the cover and i try reading cherub so what if a boy tries a CC book with a pink cover!

Cece =D says...

im not so sure finn….mayb im wrong bt hardly any boys read Cathy Cassidy books… if u do well thats cool its jst i dont thnk many others do….xoxox

Verona says...

Well of course boy can read those books. But when boys saw those books will say,’Oh! The book cover’s is too childish!...’. And they don’t want to read them. Obviously, they’re totally wrong, you think is childish, but we think its pretty! So if those guys don’t read them because of their book covers, are surely missing a lot of fun!

marjorie says...

hi cassidy! yes i think boys would want to read this book but when they see this girly cute design they will be like “oh no” but your books are tottaly awesome!!!

Anya says...

I am sure my bro would totally love Lucky star! I will defo reccomend it to him!!! xx

farai says...

ha i caught cousin-brother reading one and he said he was “just looking” but secretly he loved the book but he did like the cover

Stephanie says...

My boyfriend loves these. He pretends he doesn’t like them and asks me why I read them, but when I went to his for a sleepover, I brang my book and purposely left it, he brang it back a week later, all red and said here you left it and he ran off, I looked into it and it had a folded corner (I never fold the corners, but I know who does – my boyfriend!) the next day, he got ginger snaps for me for my birthday but he gave it to me five days late! so its obvious, but he won’t admit it (: hehehe

Kai. says...

I’am a boy and I love your books – I’m not afraid to say it. But I’d love a book with yours thats more… for boys? You’re a really great writer and I love reading your books, but I can’t actually pick one up and start reading with my friends around, so I have to get my girl friends to get me them. I particularly like ‘Ginger Snaps’ which my girlfriend loves. Keep up writing, but on behalf of me and many other boys please make one thats got a blue sort of cover with Mouse and other boy characters. Thank you.

Keely says...

I love her books, i have so far got 3. And there unisex books! so that means she didnt just aim for girls.

Rosie xx says...

I just wanted to say- I think Love, Peace and Chocolate roxs!

Cicely says...

I absolutely love Ginger Snaps and I want to read Scarlett so my friend is doing a swop with me. I think that Ginger Snaps is fantastic and everyone should be allowed to read any book they want and shouldn’t be scared to do so.

Molly says...

I am glad that boys are now being recognized. My best friend is a boy and he loves reading just like me!!!!! We are sooooooo close!! I recommeded Indigo Blue(that was the first CC book I read) and HE LOVED IT SOOOO MUCH !!!!!!! SO, again I am very glad that boy readers are being recognized because they act all tough and stuff but really they are like a quarter of that. They just don’t want to admit it. So, I gotta go . . . .love ya CC!!!!!

? says...

i think everybody should not make a big deal out of this.after all boy’s can read whatever they want.it’s there choice so don’t try to make it sound so bad or to good! from ?

Kevin says...

I’m a guy and I love reading Cathy’s books for their heart and warmth, their humour and honesty. Although the main characters are usually girls, the situations and emotions are not something only girls feel. Boys feel delight and sadness, hurt and joy, like girls, but they show it differently. Once you’re reading it is less about whether it’s a girls book and more whether it is a good book.

Maybe they should also print the books with different colours or designs so that they look more appealing to boys, or at least less obviously for girls. To those who sneer at boys who read “girl” books, it’s your loss. The rest of us are having too much fun reading to care.

P.S. I’m looking forward to seeing Cathy on her Australian trip and hope she’ll sign some books for me and my little (girl) cousins.

Thandeka says...

My bf reads these books and loves them and looooves me too but some good news for you cathy he likes your books more than me but i am okay with it

Xx Sadie xX says...

Annabelle says...

Izzy says...

Yeah, I agree that boys sometimes read Cathy Cassidy books they are just too afraid to admit it to their mates who may laugh at them to cover up the fact they might do too!

Alberta says...

Yeah, I’m not so sure because some boys don’t enjoy reading but when they start they realise how good the book can be. Some just don’t like reading at all. x

Lauren says...

I tried to get my brother to read them but he wouldnt after seeing the covers :(

Georgia x.x. says...

Anya x says...

this is to all boys out there…

Who cares what people think, if you think that a book with a pink cover is for girls then your wrong. How come boys will wear say a pink t-shirt but not read a pink book its exactly the same…

My english teacher has noticed that is only the girls in our class that read so she has made a specail rule for one lesson a week we read for a whole our. And now all the boys are getting in to books more. So boys your the ones missing out, so get reading! catch xx

aneeka :p says...

i think it’s up to boys if they wanna read cathys books but i seriously recommend it, one you read the first page you get really hooked and you read and read and read and before ya know it u have finished the whole book!! lol anyway keep on writing books cathy i luuuuurrrve your books i have all of them!! i am soooooo gonna get your next 1 luv ya cathy!!!

Sarah says...

My boyfriend Evan reads these books with me all the time. At the awkward parts, he just rolls his eyes. It’s totally up to him if he wants to read it, but he chooses to. I think he enjoys it time to time!

Jodie says...

I think it’s really cool that alot of boys have the guts to not care what people think and read your books! I don’t see why boys shouldn’t be able to read your books because there “girly” books. Your books are double cool with knobs on and people should be able to enjoy them no matter what age or gender.

Allysha Bishop says...

My friends dad loves you, Cathy Cassidy! He always reads your books and alsways is disapointed when the book comes to an end- JUST LIKE ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nix says...

Yeah, i agree, it doesnt matter who the book was written for, it doesnt matter what gender you are, you can still read any book. Some guys might be able to identify with what goes on, in fact i know quite a few guys who read girl books for a literature circle and they were actually quite good at understanding what went on and they really enjoyed it!!!

Izzy says...

Yeah boys, it doesnt matter what ppl think, it shoes more strength if you can ignore stupid comments than if you can tease someone. Unfortunately I dont know a boy that reads on, well, I think I might…...

Megan says...

hey i love your book lucky star i almost cried when the dog got ran over but i wud luv to read scarlet or driftwood

Beth says...

yeah, Cathy your right, your books are for boys just as much as they are for girls, you are SO right Cathy!

!!!!GO CATHY!!!!
Heather says...

Hi cathy just like to say it’s well nice of you to include all the lads who (perhaps secretly) read your books. I dont think i’ve heard another author do this. I think its completely lovely (: & too the many lads who have commented, and read cathys books, you have to agree with me when i say: THEY ARE AWESOME ! Them other lads who are too involved with computer games, dont know what there missing! Loveyouu cathy, massive fan here (:

Marielle says...

I’m a boy and I have read every single book by Cathy Cassidy except Angel Cake(I can’t wait for it!!!!!!!!!!). I don’t feel self-conscious reading them in public or whatever. People can say what they want but it doesn’t deny the very fact her books are fabulous and so am I! Love you Cathy!!!!!!! I am your number one fan,I am so excited that you are coming to Singapore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Xoxo, M.

mazza says...

i love your books cathy!!!they soooooo awesome!!!!!!i also think it a good idea. Marielle is one and he is not ashamed, and i think thats sooo cool. also you can hardly find any boys at my school who loves cathy cassidy. cya, mazza

Katie says...

If you want more male readers you should write another book from a boys perspective because i lent a copy of lucky star to my boy bestie and he loved it but hes to ashamed to read Dizzy and scarlett and ginger snaps ect. but hes halway through driftwood so i reckon write a book from a boys perspective

lauren b says...

hey Cathy! You know why i think most boys don’t read books that us girls do? I think it’s coz they’re trying to impress their mates and acting tough. I think they would enjoy your books if they actually started to read them. Not many boys at my school read books that girls read- it’s all football ext. However, if their friends read the books i’m sure they will! x

Anon says...

I recently tried to get a certain boy to read a CC book. It was also because a teacher had asked me to tell him aboutany competitions to do with writing as I’d previously told her I wanted to be an author. When he told her, he alo wanted to be an author, she told him to see me. Unfortunately, I’d recently had a fight with his girlfriend and she practically bit my head off when I went near him. I managed to tell him in maths though and now I told him about the site and also about Driftwood. Unfortunately, the piece of paper I gave him with the site address on, the boys found. They’d previously seen me on the site and wrote all over the sheet saying it was girly. I really felt for him and the worst thing was, I think it was his girlfriend who wrote over it after the boys showed it to her. I made me really sad to watch him when I’d caused it. Why shouldn’t boys get a chance to read what they want? I totally agree with the comment: Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. I don’t understand why people are so cruel. It’s not just the boys who are mean though, if his girlfriend did that to him, them I expect the others did too. You can certainly understand why I am no longer friends with her. Cathy: I love your books! I borrowed my friend’s copy of Ginger Snaps yesterday afternoon and I finished reading it this morning. It was so like my life, it was unbelievable. Unfortunately, I’m sad to say a certain boy in a trilby hat is not part of my problem.

Kian says...

I have to tell the truth, I posted this just for laughs… I’m really a girl. Yeah, I think that boys could read this books, it might be a little wierd though. I know a guy in my class who reads “Rainbow Faries” it’s kind of hilarious, even the girls in my class don’t read those kid books. I really like Cathy Cassidy books. Keep on writing!

Mathuew says...

hi cathy, i have to admit it…i like your books!

conner says...

harry says...

Emily says...

I loooooooooove cathies books but boys are diffrent. Yeah, they love the books but do they show it?

Chloe says...

I think it is nice if boys do like Cathy Cassidy’s books. They do have boys in each book. Maybe Cathy could do a book series for boys only?

Phebe says...

It would be nice to have boys in books too,i mean all the cathy cassidy’s books are all about girls. It would be nice if one of the books is all about boys.
