LOVE COMP

LOVE COMP

The theme of the new writing comp is, by special request of reader Bethany L… LOVE!

Write a story/poem that looks at LOVE in some way… it might be a big part of the story or just a detail; it might be romantic love, or love between a parent and child or between friends… it’s totally up to you!

IDEAS
Get thinking! Jot down your inspirations and ideas on the theme of LOVE – here are a few to get you started!
first date
first crush
first love
unrequited love
romance
broken romance
love for a pet
love for family
love for friends
jealous love
platonic love
happy love

All you have to do is weave the idea of love into the plot of your story or poem, in a clever way if you can!
If you choose to write a story, remember to have a strong beginning, middle and end and perhaps add a twist in the tail! If you choose to write a poem, remember that it does not have to rhyme… but ALL WORK SUBMITTED must be your own, original, unaided work.
The writing comp is open to readers ALL AROUND THE WORLD… do remember to include your NAME, AGE and POSTAL ADDRESS with your entry, in case you are a winner.
Check the rules below and send your story/poem to me at the website, along with your name and postal address in case you are a winner. What are you waiting for? Click the pink ‘click here to enter’ link at the top right of this page to send in your entry.
STORIES should be 1000 words or less;
POEMS do not have to rhyme (but they can if you like!).
CLOSING DATE: February 28th 2012
(Results will be published on the website soon after this date).
Entries must be by email ONLY. Postal entries will not be considered.

My Tips for Would-Be Writers…
Read lots – you’ll learn about style, plot and narrative as you go!
Write about something you care about – it’ll show!
Write as often as you can, even if it’s just in a diary/journal – it’s all practice!
Every story needs a beginning, middle and end – keep to the point and don’t get sidetracked!
Don’t expect overnight success – it took me A LONG TIME to get my first book published! But aim high, work hard… and follow your dreams!
