Sundae Girl
Who can melt an ice-cream heart?
Jude’s family are pretty embarrassing.
Her grandparents are sweet but crazy, her dad thinks he’s Elvis – and her mum is hiding a big secret that threatens to pull everything to pieces. When cute-but-clumsy Kevin Carter decides that Jude would make the perfect girlfriend, it should be cool – but Jude just can’t let anyone get too close to her or her family. Funny, sweet and sad by turns, Sundae Girl is a story of magic, mayhem and ice-cream dreams. I think you’ll like it!

Caroline, age 15
I have just finished your book. it was brilliant! i didnt like the ending part though, it made me cry :( i liked the way Jude’s mum was unpredictable because it made the book even harder to put down! i think that anyone who a parent with alcohol problems would be able to relate to this book in a lot of ways. it has made me understand more about the
disease that Judes gran suffered from too. i think that it was good how there were sad parts of the story but there were also funny
parts-especially with Toto the dog!! this is a brilliant book which i would recommend to everyone!
Rosie, age 17

this book is so cool!! i love the part where carter sends a message to jude saying do you prefer mushy peas or curry sauce!! i fell about laughing!! i love the way you write storys cathy, pick up that pencil and do your stuff!!
Hannah. age 14
i’ve read all of cathy cassidy’s books, which are quite frankly some of the best teenage books i’ve ever read! you really relate to Jude and cathy cassidy really knows what goes in teenager’s heads! its pretty amazing really. the story goes into her family life and how her mum drinks a lot and eventually admits she has a problem, after many unkept promises and false hope. Something really bad happens in Jude’s family. I cried so much! so be warned. you might need a box of tissues! Jude gets lovely
suprise at the end! It soon becomes clear that this book still maintains the superb quality of all of the other books by Cathy Cassidy. This is a story which tells about a young girl’s courage to help her alocholic mum. Its inspiring, romantic and really touches the heart. It’s a must read!
Christina, age 10
I loved Sundae Girl. When i first started reading it i couldn’t put it
down until i had read the whole book. I finished it in an hour.
Katherine, age 14
I think that Sundae Girl was a really good book, it was so good I

Emily, age 10
sundae girl was one of the best books i have ever read it made me cry at the end!i love all of your books cathy and i really hope you publish lots more for the future.

This story really got to me, its amazing how your writing can get through to people so easily and wonderfuly. I loved Kevin Carters character, he made me laugh because he reminds me of somebody I know, except he doesn’t insist on following me around on rollerblades! I loved the story and I can not wait for your next book!
Sully, age 12
This book was completely life like and unique, i felt like i had been transported right into Jude’s life!I got so wraped up that i started to cry when Judes mum would’nt stop drinking! The characters were so real i could almost hear them talking. I wish a boy on rollerblades trailing after me!

Grace, age 12
I loved this book. It was the best book I have ever read and it really made you feel sorry for Jude and all the problems she has to put up with. The gran was really sweet and when she died at the end, I cried. I also felt sorry for Grandad because he had to look after everyone and he sounds really nice. When Jude was angry with her mum, I felt angry too, just as if it was happening to me. I think that book was excellent and also involves serious real life issues which is important.
Ruth, age 13
Sundae Girl was he first book i read by you an by far the best book i have ever read. I got so into it even made me cry, even if i only read the last few chapters. Its a really moving book an i love it..xx

Isabella, age 10
I was really relating to Jude whilst I was reading Sundae Girl. Her lovable Gran had me smiling at the book and Carter had me shaking my head! I willed Jude to do stuff, like go out with Carter, and I was wondering how it was all going to be alright at the end. Then, when 1 of my fave characters, Gran, died, I have to admit, I got the Kleenex out. But Jude muddled through and ended well with us all screaming for her to kiss Carter!!!
Abby, age 11

i think sundae girl was a brilliant book, it was warm and witty, some parts made me laugh and i think jude had a really troubled life. after her mum promising to stop drinking and smoking then letting jude down made me think wow some people may live like this. i have read lots of other books and they were all brill! xx
Abi, age 13
i’m reading it at the mo nd cant put it down its really good.If you just want a lovely book to read over the summer i deffinetly recomend this one especially as it has a serious note to it as well.
when you first start reading it you think that jude has just really embarrassing parents but its so much more than that, she really goes through something and she has to be very strong and i havent even finished the book yet.You feel like you know her and i would admire her if she was a real person because i dont think that i could ever be that strong foe as long as she has.

I really didn’t think such
a great book was possible to
write!I felt really sorry for Jude at the start because
everything seems upsidedown,
with her mum promising things and then breaking them.
But then it gave me fuzzys in my tummy when
she meets Carter, I mean Kevin! Over all the characters in Cathy’s books, I would
say Kevin is the coolest!
This book is the best book

Her mum promises Jude that she will stop drinking, yet she never does. Meanwhile a boy from her school called Kevin Carter is folloeing her around on on roller-blades but ends up being her hero when he passes on a VERY important mesage.

I bought Sundae Girl as a result of winning my Spelling Bee at school (inaccessibility was the word!) and received a voucher. I knew what to buy! I loved it, especially the part where Jude’s Mum burnt Victoria’s veil.
Although many people say it is great, they also have to look at the message within – about Jude’s Mum’s addiction, Gran’s Alzheimers and how things aren’t always good on the inside for girls like Kristina.
Luc, age 12

Aimee, age 13
This Was One Of My Fav Books By Cathy Cassidy!
Its Quite Sad Too =P
Ive Nearly Read Them All Except Tha New One
Keep Writting ! !
Amber-rose, age 13
Sunday girl is an amzaing book. It has mixed emotions in it and is really brilliant. I love all of it except for the part where the girls gran is put into hospital because she had a stroke and ends up dying, because my Grandad had a stroke and he died too =[, and the gran also had Alzheimer’s, which my Grandad had too.
I like the whole Elvis party with the girls dad and wife because it was just a whole Elvis theme for every single person, and i also like the idea that there is this completely normal girl, with parents as wierd as anything! I like the fact that there is this really popular girl at school, really pretty, but she hides her life from everyone: her disabled brother, her small house, because she was ashamed and wants to keep up a reputation. Overall, the book is absoloutley fantastic, and definitely one of the best CC books ever written!!
Amber-rose =]
P.S. Cant wait till Gingersnaps comes out!!
Freya, age 13
I thought this book was brill! I really like carter cause i think he is such a g8 character! I dont like Judes mum i think she is selfish towards her family! xox

sundae girl is emotional, funny, roantic, sad and sooo much more in just a few pages!! it’s so realistic and i can feel her pain when her mum is drinking alcohol when she says she’s not. i cant relate to what jude is going through but i can fell her pain, happieness, and various emotions all through the story. it is one of the best written books i’ve ever read and i LOVE it!!!!!!!
Megan, age 12
I loved this book. It is so good. When you read you feel like you are their, witnessing Jude’s pain. My fave character is Jude’s grandma. She was very funny and i was so sad when she died. Cathy you are a brilliant author!
Sarah, age 10
This story is the best book I’ve read.

She also has a admirer from shcool called Kevin Carter. This book was fab!!!!!. Everyone should read it!.
Katie, age 11

Jessica, age 12
I’m reading this 4 the like 3rd time and i never get sick of it.I’ve been hooked on C athy Casidy books since I got Dizzy with my fave magazine. I’ve got them all exepet Lucky Star wich I’m going to beg my mum to go to every book store untill I find it.
Laura, age 12
In Sundae Girl, Jude’s mum is an alcoholic, her nan has a diesase that makes her forget who she is and who people around her are and it seems to me that Jude and her grandad are the only people who are normal!!!
I really like this book because it is something that is happening in real life and I think that it really highlights the causes and effects of problems like this.

Hi Cathy!
Sundae Girl was AMAZING.
I have just bought Scarlett, Dizzy, Indigo Blue and Driftwood with my christmas money. Iv’e started to read Dizzy and it is even better than Sundae Girl. All my friends are CRAZY about your books too! Your stories are WAY better than Jacquline Wilson’s. I cant wait to read all the rest of your books. I LOVE THEM. I would rate then 1 million out of 10 they are that good! Keep writing stories as good as these. They are so fantastic I cant put them down! Woohoo Cathy Cassidy you rock my world!

Gemma, age 11
I love this book! It’s so funny and witty! Her family are so outrageous and I feel sorry for her but who would want to read a book with a boring charater with a boring family? I feel sorry about how she has to cope with her mum though. Also if only there really was guys in the world just like Carter. Well that’s what daydreaming is for . . .
Patricia, age 11
I really loved this book. I’ve read all the CAthy CAssidy books except from Lucky Star, which my teacher hasn’t got in the calssroom. I love all the Cathy Cassidy books, and the character I admire most is definitely Scarlett, but Misti in Indigo Blue was also one of my favorites. Driftwood tackled some really important issues of the world today, as do all, but the book I could realte to most was Sundae girl. Jude is very brave and has a strong heart. Her situation is very common and similar to mine not so long ago. Lots of peple do have this problem, and the thing I love most about all the Cathy Cassidy books is that they tackle real life issues of girls from just about any age group, whist still making a fantabulously funny, tender- hearted and intriguing read. Write another book, please, Cathy, please!
Lucy, age 13
I read this book in 2 days while i was on holiday in cyprus last summer it was really good it was a book you just couldn’t put down also it mentioned a place in it called “Filey” which is where i live so that also made me want to read on as well, cathy please write some more books like this one it was awseome, x x x <3 x x x
