Bristol Event Cancelled...
Apologies to everyone who was hoping to come along to the Friendship Fest at Bristol Grammar School on June 30th… due to circumstances beyond my control, the event has had to be cancelled.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to catch up with readers in the area in September, at the Bath Children’s Book Festival… check out the Cathy’s Camper page for more info.

Boys & Books!!
It’s official… boys are reading and liking my books too! The new website has been getting lots of great feedback from boy readers as well as girls… yay!
OK, it takes an especially cool boy to read a sparkly-type book. The covers are pretty girly, I admit, but the stories really aren’t… and lads are waking up to that! Besides, if boy readers take a few tips from characters like Kian, Finn, Carter & Paul, that’s good news all round!
So… what do boys really think?
Although I’m a boy, I still enjoy your books. Scarlett is a very good book – sad, happy, romantic and funny. Also, it won the ‘John Lewis Solihull Children’s Book Award’ which was voted for by children. I voted for Scarlett to win – of course!
Kids at school have seen me reading your books, and said “Woooo, look who’s reading a girl’s book!” So I’d like to ask if you could write a book based on a boy to show them that your the best kids author ever !!!
my favourite of your books…
Ok, I’ll admit it. I am a boy. So what? So… I cried. Because of a book. So…WHO CARES?! I LOVE THIS BOOK! The ending was magical, and that was where I cried. This book is brilliant. I loved every bit of it.
I usually read fantasy books but picked up my sister’s Driftwood a while ago and that was it – hooked. The story was so real and I could totally see where Kit was coming from. I’ve read Scarlett and Sundae Girl too, and can’t wait for Lucky Star. Might have to fight my sister for it!
So… are my books just for girls, or should boys read them too? Let me know what YOU think!
Im a girl, but i recken they books are just just as much for boys, as for girls! If i was a boy, i wouldtake some tips as well! Oh, and by the way, i LOVE your books;)
I like the book 'Sundae Girl' very much its not based on a girls only book at all (even though it has a girly title and cover)! It shows that there are people out there like that and you just have to go ahead and support them. Great book by a great author!
Selina Tsai says…
Lots of boys read books. There's nothing wrong with that.

Finn, Kian... or Carter?
I’ve been getting lots of emails from girls who’ve fallen for the boy characters in my books… and it got me wondering. Who is your fave boy character so far?
Here are some of your emails….
Is finn from dizzy based on a real person because i have fallen in love with him! Every time i read about him i can’t get him out of my head….
How do you come up with the ideas for your books? They are like what I’d love my life to be like, but you make it come out better than I can explain. In Sundae Girl, Carter is like the perfect best friend – how come I never meet boys like that?
I have just read Dizzy for the second time and I’m sorry, but where
all the Finns in this world? He is such a loving character, so free
and caring. Dizzy is such a lucky girl!!!! I love the bit where Dizzy and Finn go to the beach for the day and end up kissing! It was like a fairy tale and it makes you go all gooey inside!!!!
I’ve read Dizzy, Indigo Blue Driftwood and Scarlett. You make the characters so real, like they could go to any school or festival or just be around the corner. When you described Finn (from Dizzy) and Paul (from Driftwood) I just thought why can’t boys be like that in real life? Imean why can’t they just be at least HALF of that?
I just finished reading Scarlett and now I can’t get Kian out of my head. He is my perfect boy, gorgeous, mysterious, cool and kind. I wish he was real! Whenver I read your books I always fall for the boys. Oops!
So… which boy character is YOUR favourite – and why? Finn from Dizzy, Shane from Indigo, Paul from Driftwood? Or maybe Kian from Scarlett, Carter from Sundae Girl or even dodgy Jack from Love, Peace & Chocolate? Let me know!!!
Kian for sure! the way decribed him made him sound so cool and kind and he also sounds cute!
OLIVIA HEALY says…
KIAN SOUNDS SO CUTE AND MY FRIEND LIKES CARTER
Finn is soo caring and free- that's what I like about him. And I also like Paul because he is different and really trustworthy.

Sundae Girl - the verdict!
Just catching up on an avalanche of your FAB reviews and questions… thanks to everyone who emailed with such great feedback on Sundae Girl and Love, Peace & Chocolate! I’m answering as many as I can, but apologies if you haven’t heard back – some of my replies have bounced back. Here’s what some of you have been saying….
Sundae Girl is the best book i have ever read! On the 31st March (Jude’s Piano exam!) my family and I went to the Trafford Centre. After about 2 hours I finally managed to drag them into WHSmiths. I went straight to the children’s section, and immediately my eyes fell on a sheeny shiny, gold-n-yellow book… Sundae Girl! I grabbed one of the books and bolted to the counter. Sundae Girl is BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have read Sundae Girl and i thought that it was amazing. There were some funny things and some sad things – this is by far the best book that you have written so far. I can now only wait for Lucky Star to come out.
As soon as your new book, Sundae Girl, was out I actually screamed. I saw an advertisement on the back of my favourite magazine, Mizz, so i forgot about buying the magazine and went staright to the book section, saw the last copy, snatched it and read it in a few hours. It was a fab book. I can’t wait until you’re next one!
I loved Sundae Girl! Kevin Carter sounds like the type of guy I’d go for- crazy and cute! Wow, your books scarily resemble bits of my life (and a couple of my wildest daydreams)! I just wanted to say congrats on the new book- it’s great!
Becky, age 12
Thanks Ellys, Abbie, Zara & Becky, and to everyone who wrote in with fab comments about Sundae Girl!
Cathy can you please tell me when Sundae Girl and your camper are coming to South Africa?!!!!
simonne, S. Africa
Hi Simonne! Sundae Girl will be out in SA in June, but not sure if the camper van will make it over – that would be soooooo cool! Maybe one day!
I got Mizz mag and read Love, Peace & Chocolate. I thought it was great. Me and my friend hav just had our first boyfriends & we felt we were cool wiv them but really you can never get as close as your best friend!
I have never read your books before but got Love, Peace & Chocolate free with Mizz… it was just so real and I loved it, totally. I have had a similar problem myself! Got Sundae Girl on Saturday and loved that too… you’ve got yourself a new fan!
Lyndsey, age 13
I read u minibook Love, Peace and Chocolate and really like the idea of a peace festival. I was wondering whether I would be able to hold one at my school?
Hi Sophie, Lyndsey & Charlotte! Glad you liked the mini book! Yay!! Charlotte, it’d be AMAZING if you organised a Peace Festival at your school – brilliant idea! Talk to your teachers and let me know how you get on!
